Va Va Voom

For Valentine's Day we went to the Lucha Va Voom Valentine's Sextacular at the Mayan theater downtown. The entire event is a crazy mish-mash of comedy, Burlesque dancing, and Mexican wrestling.

The evening's commentators were Blaine Kapatch and Tom (voice of Spongebob) Kenney. We had some shots of tequila, and for a few moments, the room really looked like it does in the above photo.

The Burlesque performers included four girls dressed as cavewomen, trapeze artisits, a guy on a Pogo stick, and Leroi La Girl Boi, who seemed to really be enjoying herself on that chair.

Karis did some amazing trickery with a Hula Hoop. It was sort of like a gay Cirque du Soleil. Er, make that, an even gayer Cirque du Soleil?

There were several wrestling matches. One of the higlights was the battle of the "minis".

Sometimes the wrestling and the Burlesque collided into one great super blend of stripping and fighting.

Obviously, there wasn't a huge backstage, because the girls and the wrestlers were always getting ready right behind the ringside seats.

This was great because I got to meet some of the "Buxoticas"...

...and Gina got to meet crowd favorite Dirty Sanchez!

Lucha Va Voom was the perfect Valentine's party. They lived up to their promise of "sexo y violencia".

THIS AIN'T YOUR MAMA'S 7/11

My new favorite place in the whole wide world is....(drum roll, please)....FAMIMA!! It's silly to think that I would get so much pleasure from a Japanese convenience store, but when I walk into one and see all the yummy goodness they offer I just can't help myself. I scream, "I LOVE YOU, FAMIMA!" Okay, it doesn't really happen that way. I usually just stand there in a trance, absorbed with all the fabulous items they have.

Come on people...They have Pocky! A yummy wafer type cookie coated with chocolate.

Not to mention yummy sushi, fresh salads and interesting drinks you can't get anywhere else.

Thanks Japan! Me love you long time!

The aquarium has a cool penguin exhibit. Children can crawl through a small tunnel and poke their heads up inside the penguin tank. Here's Gina hitting her head as she stands up to pose with the penguins.

B-I-N-G-O

Last night was Legendary Bingo Night at Hamburger Mary's in WeHo. The weekly charity event is always a crazy good time.

Last night was especially exciting, because the guest celebrity ball-callers were our friends Carrie and Christen from Campus Ladies.
If you know me, you know I enjoy making fun of things that start with "This Ain't Your Mama's..." As in, "This Ain't Your Mama's Nacho Recipe" or "This Ain't Your Mama's Catholic Music". With that said, early ads for Legendary Bingo shouted "This Ain't Your Mama's Bingo", and I have to admit, it's a pretty astute description.

The atmosphere is irreverent, campy and wild. For example, when someone wins a game, they have to run a lap around the restaurant while people pelt them with their losing gamecards! Before the game began last night, "sassy drag queen" The Fabulous Bell Aire performed a rap song about Bingo, then demonstrated what would happen if anyone misbehaved.

Even though none of us won, we had a really great time. Here is some visual proof... Aimee and Lisa having a really great time.

If you've never been, make sure you do. Bingo Boy and The Fabulous Bell Aire have been hosting the weekly charity event for six years now. Last night's event was raising money for The Sports Diversity Foundation. The place was packed, and they actually had to turn people away!
