Gina Verdugo

For those of you that have known me for a while know that I respond to the name Verdugo. You see, my last name is Vadurro. Since getting married it's Vadurro-Seifert. But for over 35 years I was Gina Vadurro, and a few select friends chose to call me Verdugo.

Fascinating piece of information, I know.

Anyway, you can imagine my excitement when I read that a new watering hole has opened up in Glassel Park called none other than...(drum roll please)....Verdugo!

It's like it was named after meeeeee!

Not really, but a girl can dream.

One of the best conversations I've ever overheard:
(To be read with a Latino accent)

Teenage Boy at mall sits at the food court and sees a Teenage Girl walk by.

Teenage Boy: "Hi"

Teenage Girl: "Hi"

Teenage Boy: "Come Here."

Teenage Girl: "I'm sure. For I don't even know you. "

Teenage Boy: "Come here. For I can know you. "

Teenage Girl walks up to Teenage Boy and continues to talk with him.

Now that's what I call a Smooth Operator!

WTF??!! is all I can say. And I mean that in the best way possible. Yes People, Point Break LIVE! is a stage adaptation of one of the best worst movies ever.

Point Break...LIVE??! Whoa.

My friend Libby, who's is working on this project says this, "Point Break LIVE! is the absurdist stage adaptation of the 1992 Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze extreme-sports blockbuster. This action play offers a true cathartic experience, putting you in the water with the surfers, throwing you out the door of an airplane and robbing you at gunpoint!"

Dude!

She goes on to say, "Best of all, each night the starring role of Keanu will be played by a lucky individual selected from the audience. In a method that captures the raw essence of a classic Keanu Reeves performance, the lead will read all his/her lines off of cue-cards held by a diligent PA."

Apparently it was a smashing success with sold-out, extended runs in Seattle, Minneapolis, Brooklyn and Manhattan.

What's better than going out for drinks with friends?

Going out for FREE drinks with friends.

We have a new favorite website. It's la.myopenbar.com, and you should visit it often for a list of cool events going on around LA! (or SF or NY)

On any given day, you might find out about an art opening with free food and drink, or you might hear about a cool DJ set at a bar offering free champagne and dollar Kamikazes.

Not everything listed is free, but just about everything listed sounds fun! For example, after going to the site, we got really excited about "Gorilla Thursdays" at Ghetto Gloss in Atwater Village. What sounds better than watching a screening of the original King Kong while drinking free banana daiquiris and eating free chocolate-dipped frozen bananas?!

Nobody Walks in LA

NocTOURnal LA is an event in Downtown Los Angeles meant to encourage people to walk the streets at night while checking out some very cool LA sites. We headed down there with a bunch of friends and painted the town...RAD!

Yes, I said "Rad".

The night started off with a band performing at The Grand Avenue outdoor stage. About 400 people showed up and danced to salsa music under the stars.

Next we wondered down Grand over to MOCA where they celebrated Night Vision-MOCA After Dark. This is Jude, Jeff and Lisa really excited as we headed over to the museum.

The museum stayed open late, with guest DJ's spinning tunes. We didn't stay long...other venues were calling our name.

Across from MOCA is the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall. Here we stopped for the Urban Garden Tour where we were to be guided through the gardens from 10pm to midnight. Here's a pic of the quiet tour starting to get under way.

Hmm, maybe a little too quiet for us. We decided instead to stop for a refreshment at one of Disney's outdoor bars.

Next stop: Redcat’s gallery and lounge. If you haven't been here yet, it's most def a place to go for a drink and an interesting show. Nothing was going on when we were there, but it was fun to walk around and check the place out.
