my favorite time of year

cherry blossoms, or sakura trees as they are called in japan are about to bloom. i LOVE these trees. my neighbor has two in her front yard and i often find myself gazing at them for long periods of time. not only are they absolutely stunning, i find their symbolism to be intriguing. in china, cherry blossoms symbolize feminine beauty, strength, and feminine principle. the japanese believe that because the blooming time is short, cherry blossoms represent the transience of life, a reminder that life is constantly changing. vibrant and full of energy one minute, stark and vulnerable the next.

i must admit, i sometimes feel like a cherry blossom tree.

Vanity Fair Portraits

If you have a chance, get to the Vanity Fair Portrait exhibit at LACMA. It runs through March 1st. In fact, you can catch the exhibit for FREE this MLK Monday through Target Free Holiday Monday program. Me, Sophie, and Phoebe caught it on Tuesday and it was great. Good to see you, Phebs!
